Are you looking to start or advance your career in construction inspections, compliance, and safety? We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Building Inspector I to perform on-site inspections, verify code compliance, and ensure safe and high-quality construction practices. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop technical expertise, gain valuable field experience, and grow within the industry.

The Threshold Inspector is responsible for examining and evaluating buildings, structures and construction projects to ensure compliance with local, state and federal building codes, regulations and standards. The role will perform inspections at various stages of construction to verify that the materials, techniques, and workmanship meet the required thresholds for safety and quality.

• Conducting on-site inspections of buildings and construction projects at different phases of development
• Evaluating structural components, materials, foundations and systems to ensure compliance with building codes and standards
• Verifying that construction practices align with approved plans and specifications
• Identifying and document deviations from regulations and recommending corrective actions
• Maintaining detailed inspection records, including photographs, reports, and notes
• Preparing comprehensive inspection reports outlining findings, observations, and deficiencies 
• Communicating inspection results effectively to managers as necessary
• Staying updated with changes in building codes and regulations, ensuring compliance
• Collaborating with engineers and other construction professionals to address compliance issues
• Maintaining accurate and current inspection records
• Exercising tact and courtesy when conducting inspections and dealing with clients
• Drives to various job sites at locations locally and statewide following all driving laws
• Attending department meetings and following safety procedures and policies
• Working in varying shift schedules, including weekends and overnight shifts as needed
• Travel within Florida as required
• Complete daily time and labor reports promptly
• Other duties may be assigned

• Licensure as a professional engineer or architect, or
• Graduation from a four-year engineering education program in civil, structural or architectural engineering, or
• Possession of a professional Architecture degree, or
• Registration as a building inspector or general contractor, or
• Four years of Threshold Building inspection training on non-Threshold Buildings performed under the supervision of a Special Inspector who was in responsible charge of the trainee’s work, or
• Possess certification (s) in the following area (s):
• Certification from the American Concrete Institute (ACI) – concrete construction special inspection
• Certification from the International Code Council (ICC) – structural masonry special inspection
• Certification from the Port-Tensioning Institute (PTI) – post-tensioning inspection
• Certification from the International Code Council or American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) – structural steel special inspection
• Certification from the International Code Council (ICC) – basic soil special inspection
• Valid Florida Driver’s License with acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
• Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
• State of Florida Standard Building Inspector License is required
• Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
• Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports
• Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form
• Qualifications for Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, commercial building, and/or 1+2 Family dwelling
• Previous experience in building inspection or construction quality control
• Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards
• Excellent communication and people skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Flexible with changing schedules and business needs
• Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies

• Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear; body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing
• Lifting and/or moving up to thirty-five pounds regularly on average, and up to seventy-five pounds on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation
• This job is located in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions
• Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles
• This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud
