GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for ice delivery to the public and assisting in the operation and maintenance of the fish dock, cold storage and ice production facility and assisting in the maintenance of accurate record systems for services rendered by the Fish Dock facility.
JOB FUNCTIONS/MAJOR ACTIVITIES
1. Responsible for ice delivery to the public and assists in the operation of the fish dock, cold storage and ice production facility.
2. Assists in preventative and routine maintenance, repairs and record keeping on refrigeration equipment, ice delivery systems, hydraulic crane systems, and fish dock structure.
3. Assists with installing structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing improvements and fabrication items for ice plant and fish dock facility as directed.
4. Assists or performs collection/disposal of solid waste and waste oil at fish dock and ice plant.
5. Monitors and assists with the maintenance of the computer card access system, insuring accurate information, collection and recording.
6. Occasionally maintains records of user charges for ice delivery, cold storage, and fish dock hoists. Assures that required accounting information is transmitted to the Fish Dock Supervisor.
7. Performs other duties as directed by the Fish Dock Operators, Fish Dock Supervisor or Port Director/Harbormaster.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Experience working with the public required. Four years related maintenance experience with: marine vessel, crane operation and seafood processing plant desired. Experience with small hand and mechanical tools required. Working knowledge of: hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valve systems, welding, electrical, plumbing. Basic knowledge of heavy equipment operation desired. Training or experience in hazardous waste handling desired. Capable of performing heavy manual labor. High school diploma or G.E.D. required. Valid Driver's license required.
DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES
Occasionally works without supervision or assistance. Responsible for proper care of tools. Independent judgment required in carrying out the necessary required maintenance in the performance of assigned duties. Activities are a moderate source of potential liability to the City.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY
As assigned.
EXTERNAL VISIBILITY/CONTACT
High frequency of contact with users of Port and Harbor. Moderate contact with key service personnel. Low frequency of contact with government officials. Infrequent contact with other key personnel of the City and attendance at public meetings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
High frequency of exposure to inclement weather and hazardous working conditions. Frequently involved in heavy physical exertion lifting up to 50 pounds or moving equipment and in working in confined spaces or awkward positions while using tools and equipment. May be required to handle hazardous materials such as ammonia and other contaminants. May be required to work weekends, overtime and various shifts and be on-call.
