If so, R & W Group has a great new temp to perm opportunity with one of our favorite clients! Our client is looking for a temp to perm Legal Assistant to work in their DC office. In this role you would answer, screen and place telephone calls; make travel arrangements; maintain records; prepare attorney expense reports; maintain attorney calendars; complete special projects; and assist attorneys in performing a variety of functions to support attorneys in representing their clients fairly and efficiently.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Two years of professional legal work experience
- College degree or paralegal certificate required
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Type a minimum of 75 WPM
- Excellent communication skills
- Familiarity with pleadings and discovery documents
- Familiarity with e-filing requirements for all state and federal cases
- Basic familiarity with litigation and discovery documents – personal injury case experience a plus
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answer, screen, and direct telephone calls appropriately
- Basic familiarity with litigation and discovery documents – personal injury case experience a plus
- Assist attorney in responding to written discovery and summarizing key depositions and key documents
- Set up conference calls, zoom calls, schedule appointments, and maintain attorney/team calendars
- Receives and distribute all incoming and outgoing mail, shipments, facsimiles, etc.
- Perform transcription of legal documents, correspondence, memos, notes, contracts and briefs
- Review and edit prepared documents for accuracy
- Type memos, briefs and notes and send out necessary documents and emails
- Revise and edit Powerpoint presentations
- Deposition assistance and follow-up with court reporters to obtain and file transcripts and videos
- Organize and maintain copies, electronic files and records.
- Keep track of all attorney bar admissions, pro hac vice admissions, bar dues etc.
- Record time entry and billing when needed.
- Compile legal documents and briefs; proficiency in Blue Book citation is necessary in some cases
- Make all travel arrangements, coordinate with other traveling attorneys/staff; prepare expense reports for the attorney and ensure expense reports are filed in a timely manner
- Pay expert witnesses and vendors as requested by attorneys
- E-file pleadings and other documents in state and federal courts – complex motions practice experience is necessary
- May assist other paralegals in performing a variety of functions with regard to any or all of the following: the commencement of new cases; the discovery process; pretrial preparation; trial, post-trial and appellate work; settlement preparation; and general paralegal responsibilities
- Act as a liaison between assigned attorney(s) and co-counsel, opposing counsel, paralegal and other firm attorneys
- Assist with trial preparation, deposition arrangements to include video teleconferencing as necessary
