Summary / General Description of Job
The Fire Sprinkler Technician installs, maintains, inspects, and repairs a wide range of fire sprinkler and fire suppression systems, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
Essential Duties & Job Functions
- Performs installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of fire sprinkler systems, including wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge configurations.
- Conducts inspections in accordance with NFPA 25 and other applicable fire protection standards.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs issues with sprinkler system components such as valves, piping, risers, alarms, and pumps.
- Tests and verifies system functionality, documenting findings and submitting results to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
- Works with related fire suppression systems (foam, CO2, dry chemical) as assigned.
- Collaborates with alarm and detection technicians to ensure proper integration of fire alarm and suppression systems.
- Applies technical knowledge of hydraulic calculations, flow and pressure requirements, and system performance testing.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Completion of all mandated training per company and government directives.
- Timely, accurate, and cost-effective completion of assigned work.

- Adherence to company safety policies and OSHA/EM 385-1-1 safety standards.
- Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel Policies.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in diverse environments.
Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations)
Mandatory
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a fire sprinkler or fire suppression technician.
- Strong working knowledge of piping system operation, including pumps, valves, pressure/flow switches, backflow preventers, meters, and hydraulic controls.
- Experience with sprinkler system components and layouts (wet, dry, deluge, pre-action, and foam).
- Familiarity with applicable NFPA standards, including NFPA 13, 14, 20, and 25.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and hydraulic calculations.
- Skilled in working with black iron pipe (layout, cutting, fitting, threading, and rolling).
- Possess and maintain the hand tools of the trade.
- Must obtain and maintain any required certifications for backflow prevention and fire sprinkler systems within two (2) years of hire.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must meet company physical and security requirements, including respirator qualification and clearance eligibility as required.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a service-oriented team environment.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- NICET Level II or higher in Water-Based Systems Layout or Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems.
- Certification of competency in Fire Protection Systems from a recognized institution.
