Pay Rate: $40–$42/hour

Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Writer to support business process documentation and content management within a large utility environment. This hybrid role requires candidates currently residing in the Bay Area and the ability to work onsite in Oakland 1–2 times per week.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently, identify gaps in documentation, and improve clarity and usability of business process materials.

Key Responsibilities
Process Development (70%)
  • Serve as a CCO subject matter expert (SME) for General Reference by reviewing updates and changes submitted by business partners.
  • Research and resolve process issues; draft clear and structured process steps for incorporation into the General Reference tool.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within existing documentation.
Product Management (20%)
  • Publish approved business process documents into the Front Page application for General Reference.
  • Edit and reformat information into concise, user-friendly documentation prior to publishing.
  • Post updates to the “What’s New” page to ensure visibility of recent changes.
  • Maintain accessible archives of prior process documentation for internal research, including Law Department inquiries.
  • Utilize Outlook, Excel, and Word to track and manage requested updates.
Process Improvement (5%)
  • Analyze call guides and customer contact processes to determine required updates or eliminations.
  • Provide innovative and logical decision-making when documenting communications and process steps.
  • Partner with team members to ensure all “How 2 Guides” are current and aligned across reference tools.
  • Respond to General Reference mailbox inquiries within one business day.
Safety (5%)
  • Actively participate in safety programs and demonstrate leadership in workplace safety initiatives.
  • Identify and correct potential safety hazards.
  • Comply with “Zero in on Safety” practices and complete required ergonomic and safety training.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong experience in written communication and documentation development
  • Experience with Front Page or other web publishing programs
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong logical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • High attention to detail and ability to identify unclear or inconsistent documentation
