Job Title: Technical Manager-Data Center
Location: Houston, Texas

Type: Contract
Compensation: $70 - $110/hr+ (depending on experience)
Contractor Work Model: Onsite

Overview
We are seeking a Technical Manager to lead technical oversight across a portfolio of active Data Center projects. This individual will serve as the single point of accountability for all technical matters, ensuring seamless coordination between engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
This role does not perform design work. Instead, it focuses on execution—ensuring client-provided designs are properly interpreted, aligned across contractors, and implemented efficiently in the field. The Technical Manager plays a critical role in resolving interface issues, maintaining consistency across projects, and proactively mitigating execution risks.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact across the full Data Center project portfolio
  • Provide centralized technical leadership to Program and Project Managers
  • Oversee technical interfaces between client designs, engineering contractors, PEMB suppliers, and construction teams
  • Manage and coordinate RFIs, clarifications, and technical deviations in alignment with contractual requirements
  • Guide site engineering and field teams in resolving technical conflicts and constructability challenges
  • Oversee BIM and model coordination to ensure alignment, constructability, and sequencing (without performing model authoring)
  • Ensure consistent interpretation of design documentation across multiple projects and contractors
  • Identify and drive modularization and standardization opportunities to improve constructability and repeatability
  • Provide visibility to leadership on technical risks that could impact schedule, cost, or execution
Required Experience
  • 18–25 years of experience in technical leadership, construction engineering coordination, or execution-focused technical management
  • Extensive experience on large-scale Data Center projects
  • Strong background executing client-issued designs rather than producing engineering deliverables
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple engineering firms, vendors, and construction contractors
  • Demonstrated success resolving complex technical interface issues in fast-paced, multi-project environments
Qualifications
Mandatory:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management
    OR
  • 25+ years of relevant execution-focused technical leadership experience
Preferred:
  • Experience with modular construction or standardized building systems
  • Background with PEMB structures and vendor-engineered packages
  • Portfolio- or program-level oversight across multiple concurrent projects
Work Environment
Houston-based role with regular travel to active project sites. This position requires close collaboration with Program Management, clients, site leadership, engineering contractors, and suppliers. Periodic field presence is necessary to support issue resolution, interface alignment, and technical reviews.
