Description Amazon Games is looking for a Technical Game Designer to partner with us as we build exciting new casual games with a multiplayer component. You will help build on an entirely new category for gaming and should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that's higher than most projects. In this role, you'll lead thinking on what kind of great games will be best for all kinds of casual game players. You will assess content, help developers design for Amazon customers, and invent new game benefits. The opportunity to delight millions of gamers is massive, but it's also an ambiguous challenge. You will leverage your game design knowledge to help define and prioritize content for Amazon customers who play games. You'll work with world-class third-party game developers to assess and design great exclusive content. You thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and will collaborate with engineering, marketing, and other stakeholders to resolve ambiguity and balance competing priorities. Key job responsibilities * Be part of a multi-disciplinary brain trust and work closely with external developers to ideate, build, and launch great original games * Provide compelling vision to develop inventive new game ideas * Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects and interface with all levels within the organization with candor and respect * Be able to take the high strategic view as well as dive deep and execute * Work directly with marketing and business development partners to evaluate potential games against intended audience * Remain up to date with products and services across the game industry, and also within Amazon, Twitch, and Amazon Game Studios * Quickly prototype design ideas and iterate through playtesting and player feedback * Work with developers to ensure your content and features are delivered at the highest quality * Work with engineers and artists to refine our workflows and improve our tooling About the team Amazon Luna is a cloud gaming service that makes it easy for anyone to play high-quality games on the devices they already own-including Fire TV and tablet devices, smartphones, tablets, web browsers, select smart televisions from LG and Samsung, and more--with no need to purchase new gaming consoles or equipment. Luna brings more than 50 games to Prime members at no additional cost, including GameNight, an evolving collection of more than 25 approachable, local multiplayer games designed to bring friends and family together in the living room. To play GameNight titles, simply scan a QR code on your TV and your smartphone becomes your controller. With simple and responsive touchscreen inputs and support for multiple local players, GameNight offers and easy and approachable way to play whether you're an experienced gamer of a casual fan. Basic Qualifications - Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs - 5+ years of game industry experience, or Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent - 5+ years experience as a game designer working in the game industry - Experience creating end-to-end game experiences from the concept stage to shipping - Experience working with third-party developers to build great content - Experience creating and documenting high-quality design guidelines and development strategies - Has shipped games across a variety of platforms on time and on budget - A portfolio that demonstrates process and capabilities in crafting compelling gameplay - Deep understanding of in-game content and what is valuable to players - Experience communicating with customers and technical teams to collect requirements, describe products, and technical designs Preferred Qualifications - Experience presenting to senior levels - BA, technical degree, or equivalent work experience - In-depth knowledge of game theory and design best practices - Experience building games in a wide variety of genres, for a variety of platforms, from mobile to console - Excellent communication skills, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills - A passion for emergent technologies and new gaming trends Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
