Description & Requirements

The Team:

The Documentation Coaching team at Bloomberg supports our Engineering and Data department colleagues by providing project coaching, content reviews, training courses, and guidance on technical documentation development and best practices.

We work with teams that are responsible for producing internal technical and operational documentation, but whose primary expertise lies outside of technical writing and documentation strategy. Whether a team is facing a large-scale documentation cleanup, planning a platform migration, or modernizing documentation practices for AI-driven workflows, we help them establish clear, sustainable documentation practices.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Documentation Developer to help raise the standard of internal documentation across Engineering and Data. Unlike conventional technical writing roles, this position focuses less on direct authoring and more on the leadership of coaching teams through the documentation development lifecycle. You will assess documentation artifacts and processes, advise teams on content and workflow improvements, and help establish and advance scalable, sustainable documentation practices and tooling throughout the organization.

We’ll trust you to:

+ Guide teams through onboarding their documentation to Bloomberg’s internal publishing platform, including content review and workflow support.

+ Coach teams on improving documentation quality, governance, and long-term maintainability.

+ Design and deliver documentation training, including instructor-led workshops, webinars, eLearning modules, and self-study guides.

+ Develop documentation standards, templates, and tooling that enable employees to produce discoverable, useful, and AI-ready internal documentation.

+ Stay current with AI and industry best practices that impact technical documentation and be willing to adopt new tools and approaches.

You’ll need to have:

+ 5+ years of experience in technical documentation development.

+ Experience with Git, Markdown, GitHub, and working in a docs-as-code environment.

+ Proven ability to quickly understand complex technical systems and explain them clearly and concisely to varied audiences.

+ Strong facilitation, coaching, and communication skills, including the ability to lead workshops and present structured recommendations with clarity and authority.

+ Demonstrated initiative and ownership, with the ability to independently drive projects forward from concept through execution.

+ Professional presence and sound judgment when working with cross-functional stakeholders.

+ Effective project management skills to define and deliver against a roadmap in a timely manner.

+ Ability to flexibly adapt to a changing environment.

+ A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience.

We’d love to see:

+ Experience designing documentation systems or information architecture for large, complex organizations.

+ Experience optimizing documentation for search, semantic retrieval, or AI/LLM ingestion.

+ Familiarity with documentation analytics, usage metrics, and feedback-driven content improvement.

+ Experience migrating documentation between platforms or implementing docs-as-code workflows at scale.

+ Background in technical training, instructional design, or adult learning principles.

+ Experience developing templates, tooling, or automation to improve documentation efficiency and consistency.

+ Demonstrated ability to assess documentation ecosystems and propose scalable, long-term improvements.
