Tax Manager - Ultra-High-Net-Worth Clientele - Hybrid Schedule
Position Summary
The Tax Manager will lead and actively participate in the preparation, review, and filing of tax returns for ultra-high-net-worth individuals and multi-generational families. This role is responsible for ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and thoughtful tax planning while serving as a key mentor within a small, highly skilled tax team. The individual will play an important role in enhancing tax efficiency, managing complex engagements, and delivering strategic guidance to both clients and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Direct and manage end-to-end tax compliance activities, including the preparation, review, and timely filing of federal and state returns.
Oversee the external provider responsible for fiduciary returns (1041), ensuring accurate and complete delivery of all required supporting data, including wash sale calculations, bond premium amortization, non-custodial 1099s, and internal/external partnership K-1s.
Serve as a trusted technical resource on sophisticated tax matters involving estate planning, wealth transfer strategies, and investment-related tax considerations.
Coach, develop, and support team members through ongoing training, feedback, and professional development initiatives.
Design and execute customized tax planning strategies that address complex domestic and international considerations for ultra-high-net-worth clients.
Partner with wealth management, legal, and other internal teams to embed tax planning into holistic client solutions.
Cultivate strong working relationships with clients, outside advisors, and regulatory bodies to promote clear communication and compliance.
Champion process improvements and technology enhancements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within the tax function.
Prepare and present tax analyses, planning recommendations, and reporting to senior leadership and clients.
Lead special projects related to tax planning, compliance, and risk mitigation.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments to proactively identify planning opportunities and potential exposures.
Perform additional duties as needed to support team and organizational objectives.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred (MS in Taxation, JD, or similar).
CPA required; additional credentials such as CFP are a plus.
7+ years of progressive experience in tax compliance and planning, including work with ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families.
Deep technical knowledge across individual, trust, estate, and investment-related taxation.
Demonstrated success developing and implementing sophisticated tax strategies.
Proven leadership capability with experience guiding and motivating high-performing teams.
Proficiency with tax preparation software and Microsoft Office; UltraTax experience preferred. Exposure to wealth management or accounting platforms a plus.
