Overview
Systems Engineer – Gun Mission Module (E30-2026-24811):
Bowhead seeks a Systems Engineer – Gun Mission Moduleto support the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Surface Warfare Mission Package (SUW MP) Gun Mission Module (GMM) program. The engineer will provide systems engineering rigor across hardware and software development, including requirements definition, documentation, integration, testing, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The Systems Engineer – Gun Mission Module is requiresd to close collaboration with engineering disciplines across NSWCDD, as well as NSWC Port Hueneme, NAVSEA sponsors, and SUW MP systems engineers.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Document system and subsystem design decisions, configurations, and technical baselines.
- Verify and validate requirements through planning, coordination, execution, and test and evaluation activities.
- Refine requirements as needed to support evolving system needs and sponsor direction.
- Develop verification methods and produce systems engineering documentation for delivery to the program sponsor.
- Ensure GMM alignment with LCS Mission Package objectives through coordination with SUW MP systems engineers and NAVSEA stakeholders.
- Assess operational performance criteria and recommend improvements to system performance and mission effectiveness.
- Develop requirements for GMM modifications, upgrades, and emerging technology integration.
- Apply systems engineering best practices for requirements definition, decomposition, design, and implementation of customer and end‑user needs.
- Communicate system plans, technical progress, and performance results clearly in both written and oral formats.
- Support integration and testing of hardware and software changes at NSWCDD and other DoD test locations.
- Participate in IPTs, WGs, PRPs, and PCPs to support technical reviews, certification activities, and program decision points.
- Interface professionally with government agencies, contractors, military personnel, and technical authorities to clarify program intent, identify issues, and develop solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree required
- Five plus(5+) years systems testing within a weapon systems environment.
- Knowledge of DoD and DoN acquisition and sustainment processes, documentation, and lifecycle requirements.
- Knowledge of systems engineering and software engineering best practices.
- Ability to problem‑solve in fast‑paced, dynamic, and operationally relevant environments.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across government, contractor, and military organizations.
- Knowledge of gun systems, weapon systems integration, or related technologies (desired).
- Ability to define task details, develop estimates, and build realistic schedules.
- Ability to meet established goals and program milestones while coordinating across multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to foster communication and alignment between internal and external technical authorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation.
- Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts. To receive and respond to instructions/assignments, must be able to read, write and speak English.
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
