Overview:
The Surgical Scrub Technician will work in the operating room with a Registered Nurse and is responsible for maintaining safe surgical intervention for the patient by adhering to proper aseptic technique. Must be Certified and able to utilize a good working knowledge of surgical procedures performed in the center and be able to assist and anticipate needs of the physician performing the surgical procedure. Reports to the Director of Nursing.

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates commitment to the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Surgery Center:
    • Performs in accordance with the adopted standards and approved procedures.
    • Participates as a team member in supportive role in the peri-operative process.
    • Maintains HIPAA compliance.
  • Demonstrates understanding and commitment to the Quality Assurance & Risk Management programs as adopted by the Surgery Center:
    • Performs in accordance with established quality assurance policies and procedures.
    • Supports Risk Management and participates in programs that are directed to patient and employee safety.
  • Assures that the operating room is properly prepared for the surgical day:
    • Supplies needed for surgical cases are readily on hand and easily accessible.
    • Equipment is ready and programed for each surgeon’s preference.
  • Preparing and set up for surgical cases:
    • Opening of sterile packs, instruments and supplies, assuring that aseptic environment is maintained throughout the procedure for each patient.
    • Accurate sharp count with RN when applicable.
    • Participates in “Time Out” protocol.
    • Identifies and labels all medications used during surgical procedure.
  • Following each surgical case:
    • Removal of waste and contaminated instruments after each surgery.
    • Disposal of all sharps and unused medications in the proper receptacles.
    • Cleaning surfaces with required germicidal for proper disinfection after each surgical case.
  • Maintains continuing education credits and learning opportunities relevant for maintaining required certification:
    • Attends and participates in the in-service programs and educational endeavors.
    • Attends scheduled staff meetings.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be certified by an accredited agency.
