Position Details:

 

The Opportunity:

 

WSU Tri Cities GEAR UP program is now accepting applications for a Student Achievement Specialist at Heritage & Mountain View High Schools, in Vancouver, WA. As a Student Achievement Specialist (SAS) you will provide student mentoring and will monitor and collect student data for assessment and reporting requirements. You will be responsible for increasing GEAR UP students' engagement in their education, positive academic behaviors, family connection to critical school based information, and post-secondary access support for students and families. Duties include, but are not limited to: providing family outreach and education on college readiness, student and academic support services to include student advising, assessing participant's needs and creating individual action plans. You will also work closely with school personnel and community partners and participate in after school, evening and weekend activities.

 

The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a Department of Education federal program that has been granted to and administered by WSU Tri-Cities. GEAR UP offers direct services to educational institutions and community partnerships. The program aims to increase the number of students from high-poverty middle and high schools who are well-prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

 

Additional Information:

 

This is a full time (100% FTE), temporary position.

 

This position is overtime eligible.

This is on-site/in-person role with a work location in Vancouver, WA.

 

Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end on September 29, 2026.

 

Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

 

Monthly Salary: $4,050.92 per month

Required Qualifications:

 

• Positions require a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

 

• Two (2) years of experience providing instruction or direct outreach services to students and working with parents/adults in individual or group setting.

 

• Knowledge of community, educational and social service resources in the district's community.

 

• Proficiency in the use of computers and MS Office software programs Excel, Outlook, Word.

 

• Willingness and ability to travel overnight and work a flexible schedule, including frequent nights and weekends; on some occasions with supervisory responsibility of students.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Three (3) years experience working with middle/high school, higher education, and/or GEAR UP programs.

 

• Familiarity with organization and operation of school/district administration and university/community college systems.

 

• Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people, including peers, university and school administrators, faculty, staff, students and parents, and the general public.

 

• Experience managing, tracking and reporting program data.

 

• Experience in student academic support programs.

 

• Bilingual/Biliterate in English and Spanish.
