Kirby Building Systems LLC, a division of Nucor, is hiring a Steel Detailer / BIM Modeler in Portland, TN. This role is responsible for creating detailed 3D models and construction drawings for custom metal building systems to ensure all structural components integrate accurately for fabrication and field installation. The ideal candidate has experience with metal building detailing, CAD software, and 3D modeling platforms such as Tekla Structures, along with strong math and spatial design skills.

Job Requirements
• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of 2 years of metal building detailing experience
• Experience using CAD software for technical drafting and design
• Experience with Tekla Structures or similar 3D modeling/BIM software
• Basic math skills including geometry and trigonometry for structural detailing
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate integration of building components
• Ability to collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and construction teams
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
• Associate degree or vocational certification in Architecture, Drafting, Construction Management, or Engineering Technology preferred
Key Responsibilities
• Create electronic 3D models of custom metal building systems using 3D modeling and drafting software
• Detail primary and secondary steel framing systems for metal building structures
• Develop shop drawings and technical reports for in-house fabrication and production teams
• Produce erection drawings and bill of materials for field construction teams
• Ensure all building components including wall panels, roof systems, flashings, and trim integrate correctly within the design
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve design or fabrication issues
• Maintain drawing accuracy and documentation standards throughout the project lifecycle
• Follow and promote company safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards
