Job Title: Staff Software Engineer (Robotics)

Hours/Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 am to 5 pm

Overview
This contract Staff Software Engineer role supports the development of robotic-assisted surgery software by designing and delivering production-ready code with minimal ramp-up time. The position requires independent ownership of complex software components and close collaboration with cross-functional engineering and project teams. The work follows established Agile and SDLC practices to ensure high-quality, safe, and reliable software.
Responsibilities
Rapidly understand existing software architecture, codebase, and development workflows.
Independently design and implement complex software components in alignment with defined requirements and system architecture.
Develop production-ready C++ code following established design principles, coding standards, and Agile practices.
Collaborate with project management and engineering partners to support technical execution and delivery.
Ensure software quality through code reviews, unit and component testing, static/dynamic analysis, and defect management.
Author and maintain software engineering documentation in accordance with R&D and Quality Management System procedures.
Communicate technical progress, risks, and design decisions clearly to stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
4+ years of professional software development experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in C++ and object-oriented programming in a production environment.
Experience working within a full software development lifecycle and Agile methodology.
Preferred
Prior contractor or consulting experience with proven ability to join teams midstream and deliver quickly.
Experience with Qt/QML, Linux, and/or Docker.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, unit testing, code coverage, memory management, and static/dynamic analysis tools.
Knowledge of software architecture design, including design patterns and modeling.
Background in linear algebra, computational geometry, or computer graphics.
Experience with medical imaging, computer vision, robotics, or computer-assisted surgery software.
Experience developing software in regulated environments, including biomedical or medical device contexts.
