Overview of the Staff Accountant Role
The Staff Accountant will support the school’s financial operations and contribute to a positive family experience. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant will handle key accounting responsibilities including billing, vendor management, family account support, and month‑end processes.
Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant will:
- Manage student billing operations, including scheduling tuition, posting financial aid awards, processing incidental charges, applying adjustments and credits, and maintaining billing templates for campus programs.
- Serve as the primary family support resource, responding to parent inquiries professionally and empathetically while addressing questions related to billing, payments, and account activity.
- Monitor receivables by generating monthly aging reports, supporting collections efforts, collaborating with leadership on overdue accounts, and improving billing procedures.
- Manage accounts payable and vendor relations by maintaining vendor records, reviewing invoices for accuracy, routing approvals, processing weekly payments, and resolving vendor concerns.
- Support month‑end close processes by recording deposits, preparing journal entries, generating financial reports, assisting with audit documentation and Form 990 preparation, and recommending process improvements.
Minimum Qualifications of the Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant should have:
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- At least two years of experience in general ledger functions and month‑end close activities.
- Proficiency in Excel, including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and Index/Match.
