Staff Accountant – Statutory Accounting
Location: Tigard, OR or Charlotte, NC office - hybrid flexibility
Salary: 70,000 - $80,000

This position is a specialized accounting role within the insurance and underwriting sector, focusing on Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT). You will be responsible for the accuracy of the general ledger while ensuring the organization stays compliant with specific state regulatory requirements.

Job Duties
- Prepare and verify investment journal entries and reconcile them against general ledger data, third-party reports, and custodian statements.
- Manage monthly accruals for premium, municipal, and retaliatory taxes, and handle all related annual filings.
- Reconcile revenue from multiple sources on a monthly basis to ensure financial integrity.
- Manage the claims file import process to support accurate and timely claims payments.
- Prepare and update audit reports and supporting schedules for internal and external reviews.
- Compile and submit required data call filings to state regulatory authorities.
- Perform detailed reviews of financial records to ensure all statements are complete and meet statutory standards.
- Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes through ongoing professional development and educational opportunities.
- Provide technical support for special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned by the Controller.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- 1+ years of general ledger accounting experience.
- While prior experience with Statutory Accounting is a plus, a strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting procedures is required.
- Accounting experience in the insurance industry preferred.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- ERP systems experience, Great Plains is a plus but not required.
- High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and use professional judgment to solve technical problems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to pass a standard criminal and credit background check.
