Staff Accountant

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant will support the Finance team with day‑to‑day accounting operations, month‑end close activities, and financial reporting. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented accounting professional who enjoys hands‑on work, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is interested in contributing to an organization with a strong community mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support month‑end and year‑end close, including preparing journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Perform bank, general ledger, and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice review, coding, and payment processing
  • Prepare financial schedules and documentation to support annual audits and internal reviews
  • Maintain accurate accounting records in compliance with GAAP and internal controls
  • Assist with budget tracking, allocations, and variance analysis
  • Collaborate with program and operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Support ad‑hoc accounting projects and process improvements as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2+ years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with accounting systems/ERPs
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time‑management skills

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in a nonprofit, government‑funded, or social services organization
  • Exposure to audits, grants, or program/fund accounting
  • CPA or CPA‑track a plus
