Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee casting and metallurgical programs to enhance operational capabilities, production processes, and product innovation.
  • Establish and refine procedures to meet customer quality standards, reliability, and delivery timelines in a safe and economical manner.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority on metallurgy and casting operations, employing analytical and data-based approaches to address complex challenges.
  • Collaborate across departments including Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality Assurance, with direct involvement on the production floor.
  • Engage with clients and suppliers while maintaining confidentiality and disclosure agreements.
  • Maintain safety responsibilities by adhering to policies, participating in safety audits, and promoting a safety-oriented culture.
  • Manage bimetallic casting operations, including product formulations, evaluation procedures, and outsourced activities.
  • Refine casting parameters such as heating duration, rotational speed, mold temperature, and molten metal quality.
  • Coordinate product priorities and evaluation schedules with furnace production planning.
  • Ensure thorough documentation of casting logs and production orders.
  • Act as the organizational authority on materials science and additive manufacturing across all facilities.
  • Lead product innovation projects, including new insert/matrix formulations for barrels.
  • Apply problem-solving methodologies such as Design of Experiments, Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, and Six Sigma principles.
  • Utilize heat transfer modeling and computational techniques to optimize casting operations.
  • Verify adherence to quality management systems and protocols, and analyze customer feedback and corrective actions.
  • Create and communicate performance indicators using SPC, SQC, and Lean principles.
  • Support client relations by evaluating test outcomes, spearheading defect mitigation, and addressing customer concerns.
  • Complete additional duties to support organizational goals, maintain on-site presence, and undertake travel (10–20%, potentially international).

Requirements

  • At least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity within centrifugal casting metallurgy, including direct production floor involvement.
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or comparable discipline.
  • Robust foundation in materials or mechanical engineering principles.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of casting variables and defect formation mechanisms.
  • Direct experience with centrifugal or specialized casting operations.
  • Familiarity with thermal simulation, foundry operations, and insert bonding methodologies.
  • Strong inquisitive nature and enthusiasm for cutting-edge technology.
  • Superior communication capabilities for both technical and general audiences.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
  • Strong action orientation and evidence-based decision-making approach.
  • Outstanding project coordination and planning capabilities.
  • Advanced analytical and critical reasoning skills.
  • Proficiency in Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Power BI, Project, PowerPoint).
