Job Title: Sr. Accountant
Location: Tulsa, OK

System One is working with a client seeking an experienced Accountant to perform complex, professional-level accounting work in a public-sector environment. This role supports multiple internal departments and leadership teams by providing accurate financial information and analysis to guide informed operational and performance-based decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial reports and operating statements in compliance with GAAP and present financial insights and recommendations to various internal stakeholders.
  • Perform and review core accounting operations, including balancing and posting expenditures, revenues, and journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Prepare and review detailed accounting records and supporting schedules such as AP, AR, investments, collections, debt, fixed assets, and accruals; perform reconciliations between the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Support period-end close processes and the annual audit, applying internal control procedures to ensure accurate and transparent financial reporting.
  • Maintain capital asset roll-forwards and schedules, ensuring proper allocation of expenditures across bond, sales tax, and other funding sources.
  • Monitor, record, and report on debt service activities; ensure all debt payments are completed on schedule and prepare drawdowns related to capital expenditures.
  • Manage post-award grant accounting, including financial reporting, expenditure tracking, revenue analysis, and drawdowns in accordance with grant requirements.
  • Develop or implement cost-analysis methods to create reports on service and program costs.
  • Collaborate closely with budget analysts and department leaders on financial management and budget development.
  • Maintain reliable and regular attendance.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related finance field.
  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible accounting experience.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.

Knowledge & Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, laws, and methods, with emphasis on cost analysis and governmental accounting.
  • Knowledge of auditing procedures and practices.
  • Experience with business software and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Familiarity with general office procedures related to accounting operations.

Abilities

  • Analyze and interpret complex financial and accounting records.
  • Prepare accurate and complete financial statements and reports.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with professionalism and integrity.
  • Communicate complex financial information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate stewardship and responsible management of public funds.

  • Strong analytical abilities for consolidating and interpreting financial data.
  • Skilled at researching and resolving discrepancies and inquiries.
