Job Description:
The client is seeking a Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) to provide general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This role operates in a high-volume production laboratory environment and is critical to maintaining quality, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
The SPT I performs a variety of specimen handling and processing functions, requiring strong data entry skills, organization, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to changing compliance and test-ordering requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform specimen processing activities including A-station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging/microfilming
  • Pick up and deliver processed specimens to laboratory departments
  • Accurately enter data at 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory standards
  • Work safely in a biohazard environment using proper safety practices
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area
  • Communicate effectively with staff at all levels
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing daily priorities
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong data entry background with high attention to detail
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call as needed
Preferred Skills:
  • Previous laboratory or specimen processing experience
  • Medical background, including medical terminology
  • Prior hospital or clinical laboratory experience
  • Experience working in a production-based environment
Work Environment:
  • Production laboratory with strict productivity and quality standards
  • Exposure to biological specimens and biohazard materials
  • Emphasis on safety, compliance, and turnaround times
