Job Summary
The Pre-Analytical Assistant I provides general support within the Technical Operations Department by ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant handling of laboratory specimens. This role supports specimen processing activities that directly impact test quality and laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform pre-analytical specimen processing functions including sorting, racking, centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and delivery to laboratory departments.
- Identify and resolve specimen issues such as incorrect specimen type, missing information, or handling discrepancies; escalate issues as needed for timely resolution.
- Enter and review specimen-related data with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Understand and follow compliance regulations related to test ordering and specimen handling, including daily updates.
- Research test order information using translation tables, laboratory systems, and directories of services.
- Meet established quality and production standards within six months of training completion.
- Complete required documentation clearly, accurately, and within assigned timeframes.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace in compliance with 5S standards.
- Support inventory management, waste handling, and X-ray machine operations as trained.
- Assist with staffing needs including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts as required.
- Learn additional Technical Operations and Specimen Processing functions to support career progression.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to maneuver large carts and specimen racks
- Work in a biohazard environment while following all safety and compliance guidelines
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Medical background preferred, including knowledge of medical terminology
- Previous experience in a production or laboratory environment preferred
- Familiarity with mainframe computer systems preferred
