Job Summary

The Specialist Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting engineering systems and equipment within a food production facility. This role supports engineering projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with food safety, regulatory, and operational standards. The Specialist Engineer also ensures plant and equipment drawings are accurate, current, and properly maintained.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is $59,899 to $74,876 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, education, and internal equity, in accordance with California law.

Responsibilities

Create, maintain, and update detailed technical drawings and plans, including building structural drawings, machinery diagrams, and plant layout drawings.

Produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks based on specifications provided by architects, engineers, or designers.

Distribute drawings to internal and external stakeholders for review and implementation; update drawings based on feedback from engineering and maintenance teams.

Collaborate with internal and external architects, engineers, vendors, and other professionals to understand project requirements and present design solutions.

Conduct high‑level troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical hardware systems in collaboration with maintenance teams and third‑party service providers as needed.

Integrate numeric control and automation hardware into existing systems.

Perform calculations related to dimensions, materials, and costs to ensure design accuracy and feasibility.

Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, building codes, food safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines.

Document, update, and maintain diagrams, schematics, and blueprints to reflect current plant conditions.

Train maintenance teams on the operation, diagnostics, and repair of new equipment and hardware systems.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • AutoCAD technical education certificate of completion with a minimum of one (1) year of experience creating architectural, electrical, or pneumatic drawings.
  • One (1) year of experience using AutoCAD and SolidWorks software.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously using project scheduling techniques while maintaining strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automated Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Ability to read and interpret structural, electrical, and general building drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills, including the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
