Sweet Basil Inc is the owner and operator of both Sweet Basil and Mountain Standard Restaurants. The two restaurants are located in the heart of Vail Village. Mountain Standard is rooted in the live-wood-fired cooking of our open kitchen. This high energy restaurant is a Vail favorite, full of guests celebrating with bold flavors and unique libations. The duties of a Sous Chef in our operations are varied and encompass complete kitchen management. The Sous chef will be expected to perform the following essential duties:

-Lead a team of passionate cooks, inspiring them to reach their maximum potential. We are looking for an inspiring and dynamic leader!!!

-Conduct daily staff line-ups and relay pertinent information in a clear and effective manner

-Create specials and contribute regularly towards menu development.

-Ensure the quality of our food through routine line checks, tastings, corrections and adjustments throughout service.

-Educate and train our staff, both FOH and BOH on a regular basis

-Execute daily services, ensuring all menu items are executed in an established timely manner and as the item was designed.

-Assist with necessary paperwork, including menu/special costings, mise en place lists, manager log reports, scheduling, and general management team communications.

-Communicate effectively with members of their team, FOH staff and management, fellow chefs and ownership.

These duties are some examples of the scope of the sous chef position. This is not the limit of the duties and we would love to have an independent problem solver in this position. The ideal candidate will be extremely passionate about food in general, modern cuisine, exceptional ingredients, and hospitality driven organizations. We want a leader that can inspire others through his or her passion. This person should also have a strong desire to improve their own personal skills and abilities, ideally helping the restaurant get better in those same areas.

We offer an outstanding salary with plenty of opportunity to grow. Our current Executive Chef and Chef de Cuisine both were promoted internally from the Sous Chef level.
