Base Salary: $65,000+ / year based on experience + Quarterly Bonus Potential
Rye Street Tavern is seeking a Sous Chef to manage ORDERING, INVENTORY, and VENDOR relationships while supporting lunch service.
Schedule: Daytime, 5 days a week — a great work-life balance.
Rye Street Tavern is a unique dining destination in the Baltimore Peninsula, offering a distinctive culinary experience. It is part of Clyde’s Restaurant Group, which operates 14 additional restaurants throughout the DMV area.
This role is ideal for a Sous Chef who is organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys working with systems and processes.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN A PURCHASING SOUS CHEF
- 2–3 years’ experience as a Sous Chef
- Experience with ordering and inventory
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Hardworking, attentive, and hospitality-driven
- Desire to excel and maintain the highest level of service
- Great verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to think and act creatively to provide guests with exceptional service and value
- Conceptual understanding of American food and the culinary ability to deliver American cuisine through menu development, food preparation, and production
- Disciplined and firm about performance standards, yet fair and personable in developing employees
WHAT YOU WILL DO AS A PURCHASING SOUS CHEF
Ordering / Purchasing Responsibilities
- Manage food ordering / purchasing for the restaurant, ensuring quality, consistency, and cost control
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and purveyors
- Find seasonal, specialty, and high-quality ingredients that meet menu and brand standards
- Place orders, track deliveries, and fix any delivery or quality issues
- Follow all food safety, storage, and receiving standards
Kitchen Responsibilities
- Direct kitchen staff (Line Cooks, Prep Cooks, and Dishwashers) in food handling, preparation, production, and service
- Inventory prepared foods and determine portion sizes and cooking specifications
- Assist with monthly inventories
- Delegate food preparation assignments to the kitchen team
- Check quality of all prepared foods by taste, temperature, portioning, and appearance
- Demonstrate food preparation techniques to the kitchen team
- Expedite food from the kitchen
- Train and develop the kitchen team on procedures, policies, and safe operation of equipment and machinery
- Create work schedules for prep cooks and dishwashers and enter them into the timekeeping system
- Walk and inspect the facility, equipment, and machinery to ensure compliance with safety, health, and sanitation regulations
