Software Engineer III, Database Internals, AlloyDB, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, Go), or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
- Experience working with relational databases, back-end development, database internals, or distributed systems.
- Experience with SQL and data structures.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms, and distributed systems design (e.g., concurrency control, indexing, transactional systems, multithreading).
- Experience with database internals (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL), query optimization, compilers, or data storage.
- Experience building managed services, specifically within the databases or storage domains, or Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) benchmarks (e.g., TPC-C, TPC-H).
- Experience developing accessible technologies.

As a part of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), the engine powering the world's most data-intensive applications, you will join the AlloyDB team, which manages a massive opportunity revolutionizing Relational Databases (RDBMS) for the cloud era.In this role, you will work on AlloyDB, a fully managed, PostgreSQL compatible database service designed for the most demanding enterprise workloads, combines the familiarity of open-source PostgreSQL with a custom-built, cloud-native storage and query engine that delivers excellent availability, performance, and scalability. You will go far beyond standard application development. You will architect and build the deep internals of the database engine itself optimizing the storage and query layers that allow enterprise customers to migrate to the cloud without sacrificing the performance or commercial features they depend on.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Write product or system development code for high-performance database internals, specifically focusing on the design and implementation of storage and query engines for AlloyDB.
- Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies, driving architectural direction for large-scale distributed systems and transactional consistency.
- Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
- Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality, including performance benchmarking and optimization of query execution.
