Step into an exciting opportunity as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) in Staten Island, NY, where you will take the lead on a major heavy civil resiliency project involving drainage ponds, excavation, utilities, and stormwater infrastructure improvements. This is a standout opportunity for a safety professional with USACE experience to join a respected construction team on a high-visibility project, playing a critical role in protecting workers, enforcing EM 385-1-1 standards, and helping deliver essential infrastructure that strengthens the community against future storm damage and flooding.

Qualifications and responsibilities for this Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) position include:

• Minimum 10 years of safety experience in heavy civil construction such as highway, utility, infrastructure, or similar projects
• Documented USACE EM 385-1-1 project experience and strong working knowledge of OSHA standards and federal safety compliance requirements
• Required certifications include OSHA 30, CHST/CSP/OHST or similar accredited safety credential, OSHA Authorized Trainer, HAZWOPER 40-Hour, Scaffold Competent Person, Fall Protection & Confined Space Entry, and First Aid/CPR
• Conduct daily site safety inspections, maintain hazard logs, investigate mishaps and near misses, and manage incident reporting documentation
• Review, approve, and enforce the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) in accordance with EM 385-1-1
• Maintain OSHA 300 logs, SDS documentation, SOH Deficiency Tracking System, and weekly reporting of high-hazard activities
• Serve as the primary point of contact for Government safety representatives while ensuring subcontractor safety compliance and corrective actions
• Remain onsite full-time during construction operations and safety-critical activities, shutting down unsafe work when necessary

Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Benefits: This full-time, permanent, direct-hire position offers great benefits including 10 days of PTO upon starting, increasing to 15 days annually, a 401(k) available after 90 days with a 100% company match up to 3%, eligibility for a cash balance/profit-sharing plan after one full year, medical coverage through Cigna with two plan options, and dental and vision coverage through United Healthcare available after 60 days of employment.
