Title: Shop/Yard Support
Classification: Non-Exempt


Position Summary
The Shop Support / Yard Associate assists the Construction Yard Foreperson by organizing, assembling, and preparing materials, equipment, and supplies for roadway and construction projects. This role supports warehouse and yard operations by pulling job orders, loading, and unloading trucks, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring trucks and equipment are job-ready in accordance with company and DOT standards.
This position plays a critical role in operational efficiency, safety compliance, and ensuring crews have the materials necessary to complete work accurately and on schedule.

Essential Functions

Order Fulfillment & Job Preparation
  • · Pull and stage orders for construction projects, including signs, posts, hardware, tools, forms, and related materials.
  • · Ensure trucks are equipped with required hardware, tools, and equipment based on standardized task checklists.
  • · Prepare and assemble materials, including cutting posts, assembling brackets, building reinforcement cages, and constructing templates or plywood forms.
  • · Assist with customer sales and rental order fulfillment with accuracy and urgency.
Inventory & Warehouse Operations
  • · Receive, inspect, sort, and distribute incoming shipments and purchase orders.
  • · Maintain accurate inventory records and notify supervisors of low stock or supply needs.
  • · Assist with cycle counts and inventory control processes.
  • · Organize and maintain warehouse shelves, yard materials, posts, steel, anchor bolts, and hardware in accordance with company layout standards.
  • · Maintain clean and orderly trucks, warehouse areas, and yard spaces.
Equipment & Fleet Support
  • · Load and unload trucks manually and with forklift equipment.
  • · Inspect trucks and equipment daily and report needed repairs or safety concerns.
  • · Operate forklifts and warehouse equipment safely and efficiently.
  • · Use hand and power tools for cutting, drilling, assembling, and shop-related tasks.
Customer & Administrative Support
  • · Process customer sales orders at the counter or point of sale.
  • · Respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, or in person.
  • · Support vendor and inter-branch deliveries and pickups as needed.

Additional Responsibilities
  • · Assist in the sign shop or fabrication area when required.
  • · Maintain compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and DOT standards.
  • · Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • · Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • · Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • · Working knowledge of warehouse and inventory management practices.
  • · Basic carpentry skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • · Ability to operate forklifts and warehouse equipment safely.
  • · Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • · Strong attention to safety and detail.
Education & Experience
  • · High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • · 2–5 years of warehouse, yard, or construction support experience preferred.
  • · Experience in construction materials, traffic control, or sign installation environments preferred.
  • · CDL Class B preferred but not required.
Physical & Compliance Requirements
  • · Ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds regularly.
  • · Valid driver’s license required.
  • · Must pass background check, drug screen (including DOT requirements), MVR review, and road test if applicable.
  • · Must meet Federal DOT compliance standards.
  • · Flexible availability, including potential overtime.
