SEXUAL ASSAULT ADVOCATE
JOB DESCRIPTION
Department: Direct Services
Reports to: Director of Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: 40 hours per week Mon.-Fri.
Salary: $35,000 to 40,000 per yr.
Job Summary:
Provide Core Services: Information and referral, crisis intervention, medical and legal advocacy, individual counseling and support groups to victims, non-offending caregivers and significant others.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide system coordination including client follow-up.
Maintain confidentiality regarding clients and services.
Plan and implement public education and outreach services to insure that underserved populations and areas are reached, in coordination with supervisor.
Network with other agencies as appropriate to assure consistency in services to children, provide case management and maintenance of client records, facilitate plans for meeting the needs of clients, being sensitive to cultural and racial diversity.
Must have the ability to educate and make public presentations regarding sexual abuse/assault issues.
Have the ability to work with children in a variety of settings, traveling to designated schools on a weekly basis. Work cooperatively with school counselors and other service providers following the individual protocols of each school.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
BA in Human Resources or related field and two years of progressively responsible experience in sexual abuse/assault services or a combination of six years of relevant education, training and experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have the ability and willingness to work independently, and as part of a team. Being capable of making sound decisions without direct supervision.
- Possess competent organizational skills and have the ability to work under pressure and independently.
- Have a good understanding of and the ability to work with clients of different races and cultural being sensitive to the customs and needs of different cultures.
- Possess a responsive and empathetic manner.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Must have a working knowledge of computers and software, as well as office equipment, and general office procedures.
- Complete 30 hours of initial Sexual abuse/Assault training, plus 12 hours of ongoing sexual abuse/assault training annually. Complete 20 hours of initial Domestic Violence training and 30 hours ongoing training annually.
Complete 30 hours of initial Crime Victims training, plus 12
hours ongoing training annually.
- Ability to act and dress in a professional manner.
- Able to travel on agency business.
- Physically able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance.
- A Washington State background check with acceptable results is required.
