Sewage Truck Operator
The sewage truck operator, also sometimes called a septic tank pumper, plays a crucial role insanitation and waste management. They are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of sewage trucks used to collect wastewater from septic tanks, portable toilets, and other locations.

Responsibilities:
- Operate a sewage truck to safely collect and transport wastewater to designated treatment
- facilities.
- Locate and maneuver the truck into position for efficient waste collection.
- Operate the truck's vacuum equipment and hoses to remove wastewater from septic tanks
- or other holding units.
- Ensure proper disposal of wastewater at designated treatment plants or facilities.
- Maintain accurate records of waste collection volumes and locations.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks on the sewage truck, including cleaning, checking fluid levels, and reporting any malfunctions.
- May assist with cleaning and deodorizing septic tanks or portable toilets (depending on the employer).
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and supervisors to coordinate collection schedules.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations regarding handling wastewater, a potential biohazard.
- High school diploma or GED (preferred).
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience operating a sewage truck in a waste management or similar environment.
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a minimum Class B classification (endorsements may be required depending on the specific vehicle weight and waste capacity).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL may be preferable for some employers.
- Strong understanding of safe operation practices for sewage trucks and wastewater handling.
- Excellent critical thinking skills to address unexpected situations during waste collection.
- Physically capable of performing tasks that require bending, lifting, climbing, working outdoors in potentially unpleasant conditions, and maneuvering hoses and valves.
- Ability to tolerate strong odors associated with sewage.
