A nationally recognized plaintiffs’ trial firm is seeking an experienced Settlement Distribution Manager to oversee and manage the end-to-end settlement distribution process. This role plays a critical part in ensuring client funds are distributed accurately, efficiently, and in full compliance with firm policies, ethical rules, and regulatory requirements.

This position serves as a key operational bridge between Legal Operations and Accounting, helping ensure financial accuracy, risk mitigation, and timely distribution of settlement proceeds across a high-volume national practice.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience with settlement workflows, trust accounting, liens, and case expenses, along with the ability to improve processes and manage distribution performance.

Job Details

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the full settlement distribution lifecycle, from receipt of settlement funds through final client disbursement
  • Review and validate all settlement data including settlement amounts, attorney fees, case costs, liens, holdbacks, and net client proceeds
  • Approve distribution calculations and ensure compliance with firm policies and trust accounting requirements
  • Ensure settlement processing aligns with firm monthly and quarterly distribution targets
  • Track distribution volume, turnaround times, and performance metrics
  • Report distribution activity, risks, and operational updates to firm leadership
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for questions related to settlement calculations, case expenses, and distribution procedures
  • Escalate issues involving legal risk, financial exposure, or policy exceptions
  • Ensure accurate capture and accounting of case expenses at the time of distribution
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, controls, and workflow processes across legal operations and accounting teams

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in settlement distributions, trust accounting, legal operations, or law firm finance
  • Strong understanding of settlement workflows, liens, case expenses, and client trust accounting
  • Experience reviewing or approving distribution calculations and financial data-
  • Prior experience managing or supervising staff is preferred
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage high-volume workflows
