JOB DESCRIPTION             

This position has the ability to report out of Columbus, OH (Hybrid) or remotely out of AMP's membership footprint

Position Title:    Senior Transmission Engineer – T-Line 

Reports To:    Senior Director Transmission Engineering 

FLSA Status:    Exempt

Basic Functions:

1.    Assist with implementing and maintaining AMP Transmission (AMPT) engineering standards specific to transmission line designs.

2.    Provide technical direction and guidance on AMPT-owned Transmission Line assets, along with potential new projects in planning and construction.

3.    Develop the detailed project scope, specifications, drawings, and statement of work for the AMPT construction and engineering RFP process.

4.    Support, assist, and develop the design, calculations, studies, and analysis necessary for the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of electric utility transmission lines.

Essential Functions:

1.    Participate in capital project engineering-related activities, including developing requests for proposals, as well as vetting, selecting, and managing third-party engineering companies and contractors. Provide technical directions to consultants and review third-party deliverables.

2.    Review and recommend for approval detailed engineering bid packages for release.

3.    In close collaboration with transmission operations, transmission planning, and transmission project management, develop, maintain, and manage AMPT engineering standards.

4.    Assist in developing ratings and guidelines for electric equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance with applicable regulations.

5.    Assist in providing technical direction, support, and guidance on ongoing AMPT-owned assets, potential new projects in planning, and construction projects.

6.    Participate in project field/site walkdowns and attend meetings/conference calls as needed. Participate in equipment factory visits as needed.

7.    Assist with maintaining the drawing management file system and engineering databases.

8.    Work in close collaboration with transmission operations, transmission planning, transmission project management, and other departments and stakeholders to successfully accomplish tasks.

9.    Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications:

1.    A four-year accredited engineering degree is required, with civil engineering preferred.

2.    Experience with PLS-CAD transmission line design software required. 

3.    GIS information system software, and similar applications preferred.

4.    A minimum of 5 years of experience in electric transmission line engineering is preferred.

5.    Preferred knowledge of North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability standards, processes, and compliance obligations.

6.    Must be deadline/critical path oriented and have a strong ability to prioritize.

7.    Strong verbal, written, and computer skills are essential; must demonstrate previous success in building effective business relationships. Must have a positive attitude and work well within a small team.

8.    Must successfully complete FERC Standards of Conduct compliance training within 30 days of employment.

9.    Must be willing to travel to assigned project locations throughout the AMP Transmission footprint.

10.    Position is located at the AMP Headquarters building in Columbus, Ohio. Preference will be given to candidates who currently live in the Columbus area or are willing to relocate. This job is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office and 2 days working from home).

11.    Candidates who are located remotely from Columbus, Ohio, but within the AMP membership footprint may be considered for this position. If the selected candidate is a remote candidate, they will be expected to travel to project sites based on project needs and to AMP Headquarters on a periodic basis.
