SENIOR TRAFFIC ENGINEER

Responsibilities:
The Senior Traffic Engineer will work out of the Public Infrastructure department in the Boston office.As a Senior Traffic Engineer you will provide traffic engineering services on all phases of multi-disciplinary projects and provide technical support, review, and guidance to Staff Traffic Designers and co-ops/interns. The successful candidate will work with Project Managers to develop technical calculations, traffic and safety analysis, and technical reports; participate and organize field work and data collection; and prepare engineering plans, calculations, estimates, and specifications for multi-disciplinary projects. The successful candidate will utilize technical knowledge to develop and summarize conceptual design solutions and interpret and utilize national and local guidelines and procedures from industry manuals and agencies such as MUTCD, FHWA, NCHRP, ITE, NACTO, HCM, and HSM as well as local municipalities’/agencies’ standards. Responsibilities will also include client communication relating to projects and project deliverables, assistance in the development of proposals including scope and fee details, delegation of work tasks, and completion of work within the allotted schedule and budget.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree – Civil Engineering
- 6+ years’ experience of progressive responsibility in Traffic Engineering.
- P.E. or ability to obtain P.E. within a year preferred
- Technical knowledge of the MUTCD, HCM, AASHTO Green Book, and HSM
- Knowledge of Complete Streets design principles
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Synchro, SIDRA, and HCS required
- Experience with VISSIM a plus
- Experience preparing traffic design plans and signal schedules, estimates, and specifications required
- Experience with MassDOT standards and deliverables preferred
- Ability to provide technical support, review, and guidance to team members
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment and coordinate across disciplines
- Ability to work on multiple projects
- Organized and able to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to utilize critical thinking, judgment, and experience to define, analyze and resolve issues.
