Senior Tax Accountant

Salary: $100,000–$115,000 + 5–10% bonus

What they’re about:

A smaller, relationship-driven public accounting and tax advisory environment serving small businesses and complex SMBs. The team values tenure, trust, and long-term client relationships—many clients come via neighbors, church, and referrals. The culture is laid back/business casual, non‑micromanaged, and focused on quality work and collaboration. The Senior Tax Accountant joining this team will step into an environment where meaningful relationships matter more than high‑pressure production.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

• Client-facing advisory, not just production: act as a business advisor—planning, consulting, and practical guidance beyond returns as a Senior Tax Accountant
• Autonomy + collaboration: run your work independently, then workshop complex issues as a team of seasoned tax professionals
• Balanced hours: busy season hours increase, but flexibility exists outside of peak periods—ideal for a Senior Tax Accountant coming from Big 4 or a large regional firm
• Hybrid flexibility: 3 in / 2 WFH, onsite during tax season
• Supportive environment: business casual, collaborative discussions, and a culture that values mentorship and guidance; the Senior Tax Accountant is encouraged to contribute ideas
• Long-term runway: opportunities to advance as senior team members retire—excellent growth trajectory for a career‑minded Senior Tax Accountant

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Tax Accountant

• Tax Preparation & Review: Prepare and/or review complex business (1120, 1120S, 1065, K‑1s) and individual returns (including multi-state); trusts, estates, gifts, nonprofits (Form 990)
• GAAP Financials: Prepare GAAP‑compliant financial statements (BS/IS/CF/Equity) and ASC-aligned notes
• Bookkeeping & Adjustments: QuickBooks Desktop/QBO data integrity, journal entries, tie‑outs to tax returns
• Reconciliations: Bank/credit card/loans; AR/AP, prepaids, inventory, fixed/intangible assets, accrued liabilities, leases, equity
• Sales & Use Tax: Prepare IL ST‑1 and reconcile to GL
• Advisory & Planning: Identify process improvements and tax savings opportunities; articulate recommendations to clients—key value-add for a Senior Tax Accountant
• Audit Support: Assist with IRS/State correspondence and audit inquiries
• Team Leadership: Train, delegate to, and review work from associates and staff; ensure documentation and an audit trail from books to returns. A great opportunity for a Senior Tax Accountant seeking supervisory experience.

Experience

• CPA required
• 5–10+ years in public accounting/tax (flex higher; comp flexible for extensive experience)
• Demonstrated multi-entity and multi-state return experience across C/S corps, partnerships, LLCs, trusts/estates, nonprofits, and individuals
• Strong GAAP knowledge with hands-on financial statement prep
• QuickBooks Desktop/QBO, ProSeries, Adobe Acrobat Pro, MS Word/Excel proficiency
• Proven ability to balance production (50%) with review, advisory, and client communication
• Collaborative communicator who brings solutions and can mentor junior staff
• Cultural match: relationship-first, initiative‑taking, flexible—not rigid; stable tenure preferred. The ideal Senior Tax Accountant enjoys client relationships, collaboration, and long-term stability.
