Job Summary
The Senior Rail Project Engineer serves as a key contributor within the Rail Team, supporting rail and civil site development projects of varying size and complexity. This role provides technical leadership, multidisciplinary coordination, and hands-on engineering expertise to deliver safe, high-quality rail infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Rail & Civil Engineering Design
- Direct and coordinate the study and design of civil site development infrastructure systems, including rail and stormwater
- Perform standard civil engineering design work related to rail industrial development projects
- Apply established engineering techniques and procedures across site civil and rail design
Project & Team Leadership
- Coordinate activities across multiple disciplines for moderate to large projects
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced staff
- Assist with staff supervision, task assignment, and workload management
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Regularly coordinate with internal design teams, clients, sub-consultants, utility companies, and other stakeholders
- Support task leaders and project managers with execution, scheduling, and issue resolution
- Serve as a contributing team member on multi-disciplined project teams
Quality & Technical Oversight
- Perform quality reviews of engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications
- Support senior staff with complex technical aspects of projects
- Ensure deliverables meet project standards, safety requirements, and regulatory expectations
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education & Experience (One of the Following Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program and 7+ years of civil engineering experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited) plus FE exam and 7+ years of civil engineering experience
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and 6+ years of civil engineering experience
EPC project experience preferred
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in rail and civil infrastructure design
- Proficiency with tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, BIM (Revit), PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD, and related analysis software
- Experience leading discipline design efforts and delegating work to team members
Professional Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to detail, organization, and collaboration skills
- Ability to travel as required
Preferred / Additional Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Rail experience and/or open rail design experience
- Experience leading large, complex transportation or infrastructure projects
