The Senior Project Manager provides strategic leadership and overall accountability for large or complex civil construction projects. This role ensures projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with contractual, financial, and operational objectives. The Senior Project Manager leads project teams, drives performance, and serves as the primary point of accountability for successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide full contract administration, technical oversight, and leadership for large or complex construction projects.

  • Lead the development and execution of the project safety plan, fostering a proactive safety culture through visible leadership and accountability.

  • Oversee all construction activities to ensure compliance with design intent, budget, quality standards, resource plans, and project schedules.

  • Understand client priorities and proactively present value engineering solutions to enhance functionality, reduce costs, and improve timelines.

  • Maintain overall accountability for project performance, reviewing and analyzing safety metrics, cost forecasts, and schedule updates.

  • Negotiate and execute subcontracts, major purchase orders, and progress payments, while monitoring subcontractor performance and adherence to schedule.

  • Interpret, communicate, and proactively manage all contract documents and obligations.

  • Lead and coordinate commissioning and project closeout activities to ensure successful turnover.

  • Identify, evaluate, and manage project risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop project teams, including both direct and indirect reports, fostering a high-performance environment.

Design-Build Projects (if applicable)

  • Monitor design progress to ensure compliance, quality standards, coordination, constructability, and timely delivery of milestones.

  • Establish and maintain comprehensive design management and quality plans, conducting periodic audits to ensure adherence.

  • Maintain proactive communication with clients, consultants, and stakeholders, managing expectations and addressing challenges or opportunities as they arise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.

  • 10+ years of progressive construction experience, with demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities.

  • Proven ability to implement and sustain a strong safety culture aligned with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

  • Extensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, specifications, building codes, construction law, and quality management practices across diverse project types.

  • Exceptional planning, organizational, and time management skills, with experience managing budgets, schedules, resources, and risk.

  • Ability to forecast project staffing and resource requirements effectively.

  • Demonstrated success identifying and managing project risks and opportunities.

  • Strong relationship-building skills with clients, stakeholders, and key decision-makers.

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing trade performance across all phases of construction.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management/scheduling software, with a strong ability to adapt to new technologies.
