Overview:The Senior Principal Security Specialist is recognized as a specialist in the security field. This role can anticipate internal and external business challenges and regulatory issues and recommend process, products, or service improvements and can develop plans to protect CB&I employee and visitors.
The Senior Principal Security Specialist is tasked with solving unique and complex problems that broadly impact the business. They must proactively identify and solve the most complex problems that impact management and the direction of the business. The Senior Principal Security Specialist impacts program direction and resource allocation in their discipline and works within general functional policies and industry guidelines. The Senior Principal Security Specialist role requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop creative solutions to security challenges.
This position is an individual contributor role. The role directly reports to the Senior Director of HSES, this role regularly collaborates with Senior Leadership (C‑Suite), Facilities, Site Health, Safety & Environmental Managers, Information Technology, Human Resources, Legal, and employees across the organization. Externally, the role engages with local law enforcement, host‑nation authorities, government agencies, security vendors, specialized security contractors, foreign embassies and consulates, and clients located in high‑risk environments.
- Provide strategic and operational support to projects by assessing and addressing site security needs.
- Develop, maintain, and implement CB&I security policies, procedures, plans, work instructions, and site‑specific operating guidelines.
- Establish and track specific, measurable security objectives to support organizational and project goals.
- Oversee and guide Security Guard Supervisors and Security Specialists to ensure effective execution of security plans and guard force operations.
- Partner with Operations and Project Management to determine security requirements and deliver tailored, compliant security solutions.
- Identify process deficiencies and lead improvements to strengthen security operations and systems.
- Review guard schedules to ensure adequate coverage and compliance with project demands.
- Conduct and oversee security investigations, ensuring high‑quality reporting and approval of investigative documentation.
- Manage integration and installation of alarm systems, access control systems, CCTV systems, visitor management systems, and related security equipment.
- Ensure completion of required security training and support disturbance resolution in alignment with company policies.
- Perform risk assessments and communicate findings, recommendations, and mitigation strategies to project leadership.
- Ensure completion and documentation of scheduled and random facility security checks.
- Prepare and issue weekly security activity plans to maintain consistent communication and operational alignment.
- Recommend and implement enhancements to security processes, systems, and asset‑protection measures.
- Maintain professional relationships with law enforcement, government agencies, and external partners to support security operations and threat awareness.
- Advise management on regional threats, trends, risks, and protective measures, ensuring a proactive and business‑enabling security posture.
- Support incident response, crisis management, business continuity planning, and development of drill scenarios using prior crisis‑management experience.
- Work within pre-defined budgets to deliver security systems to CB&I sites / facilities.
- 15+ years of experience in Security, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry-recognized qualification.
- Recognized Business Continuity qualification is preferred.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- For USA-based operations, must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
- Must be able to obtain all necessary state / federal / national security guard license(s) applicable to the area of operation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suites.
- Must be able to work non-standard hours as needed, which may include evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays, due to the nature of global security activities.
- Extensive functional, business, industry, and leadership expertise preferred.
- ASIS International APP (Associate Protection Professional) certification preferred.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of security and safety.
- Extensive experience and knowledge of various access control platforms (Lenel), video management systems, and incident management applications / software.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in managing relationships, processes, and technical projects.
- Experience gathering and analyzing data to create useful metrics that support positive change.
- Possess general knowledge and understanding of local and country-specific security laws.
- Proficient in conflict resolution, emergency response management, surveillance technology operation & risk management.
- Exceptional written, presentation, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with all levels of management.
- Proficient in Incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of CB&I products and markets preferred
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to drive process improvement.
- Proven negotiating ability with high emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills
