To maintain confidentiality and prevent direct search matches, I have rephrased the title to Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer (HVAC & Environmental Controls) and generalized the industry-specific references to High-Tech Production Facilities. This version emphasizes the technical sophistication of the cleanroom and abatement systems.

Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer (HVAC & Environmental Controls)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to spearhead the design, integration, and long-term operation of critical environmental control systems for a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. This role is essential for maintaining the rigorous temperature, humidity, and particle-count standards required for high-precision production environments.

Initially based in the Tempe and Peoria, AZ area during the infrastructure and commissioning phase, you will transition into a permanent leadership role as our flagship Peoria facility moves into full-scale factory operations.

Key Responsibilities

System Design & Project Lifecycle

  • Technical Oversight: Collaborate with design consultants to ensure all mechanical and airflow requirements are met for cleanroom environments, administrative spaces, and specialized exhaust systems.

  • Commissioning & Startup: Lead equipment preparation and operational testing; resolve technical abnormalities during the critical transition from construction to active production.

  • Handover Management: Oversee the transfer of documentation, manuals, and standard operating procedures from the build team to the sustaining engineering team.

Operational Excellence & Abatement

  • Specialized Systems: Provide advanced engineering support for Make-Up Air (MUA) units, Recirculating Air Units (RCUs), acid scrubbers, and complex solvent abatement (RCTO) systems.

  • Environmental Stability: Manage "Out-of-Control Action Plan" (OCAP) conditions, ensuring cleanroom temperature, humidity, and pressure levels remain within strict tolerances.

  • Infrastructure Support: Direct the maintenance and troubleshooting of office-side HVAC, including AHUs and VAV systems.

Sustaining Engineering & Optimization

  • Capacity Planning: Conduct trend analysis and system evaluations to forecast production demands and identify necessary capital upgrades.

  • Efficiency Initiatives: Partner with maintenance teams to implement energy-saving technologies and improve system reliability using FMEA and root cause analysis.

  • Tool Integration: Review exhaust designs during the equipment hook-up phase and perform engineering inspections for all new production assets.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.

  • Proven Tenure: 5+ years of experience in HVAC engineering (design and operations), specifically within high-tech manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or aerospace environments.

  • Technical Mastery: Deep understanding of chilled water systems, cooling towers, and ISO cleanroom standards.

  • Documentation Skills: Expert ability to interpret engineering specifications and proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam.

  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with a focus on reliability engineering and troubleshooting complex airflow systems.

Physical & Operational Readiness:

  • Field Capability: Ability to climb ladders, work at elevation, navigate confined spaces, and work in varying weather conditions.

  • Physical Fitness: Regularly able to lift 50 lbs and maintain medical qualification for respirator use.

  • Professional Credentials: A Professional Engineering (PE) license is a significant advantage.

Location & Mobility:

  • Ability to work onsite at Tempe and Peoria locations, with hybrid flexibility available as the project matures.
