Position Summary:
The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) design engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR). Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies, NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards.
This role will perform a range of activities associated with the design, analysis, and manufacture of pressure vessels, related components, reactor vessel internals, and/or supports in accordance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), Section III, and applicable regulatory requirements. All work is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review engineering specifications, reports, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with the NSSS.
- Maintain and revise computer-aided design (CAD) models using Siemens NX and related engineering drawings in accordance with ASME Y14 standards and best practices.
- Utilize the results from BPVC Section III evaluations to optimize component design.
- Collaborate with peers in different organizations and engage in the engineering change control process to ensure design decisions are well-communicated and well-understood.
- Review design work of other groups (within and without the client organization) to gain and maintain an understanding of how components, systems, and structures will work together.
- Speak to the design of NSSS Components in discussions with manufacturing partners to ensure design intent is maintained while fabrication of components is considered.
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or nuclear engineering is required (advanced degree is preferred).
- 8+ years of experience with mechanical engineering design, including personal accountability for design decisions is required.
- Thorough understanding of engineering drawings per ASME Y14 standards is required. (ASME Y14 dictates geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles essential for functional, interchangeable parts.)
- Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Section III for Reactor Vessels, Pressure Vessels, and Pipe Vessels is required.
- Design experience with commercial nuclear components is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with stress engineering analysis (design by analysis methodology) is preferred.
- Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
