Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join their team in Anoka, MN. This is a direct hire opportunity focused on R&D and new product development for industrial products. This position will play a key role in taking concepts from early-stage design through prototyping and into production.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced development environment and has a strong background in sheet metal design and SolidWorks. Candidates MUST have sheet metal design experience!
- Lead mechanical design efforts for new product development (R&D) projects
- Design and develop components and assemblies using SolidWorks
- Create detailed drawings, models, and documentation for production
- Apply strong sheet metal design principles, including bend allowances, tolerances, and manufacturability
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams to bring products to market
- Build and test prototypes; iterate designs based on performance and feedback
- Ensure designs meet functional, cost, and manufacturability requirements
- Support design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience (senior-level candidates only)
- Proven experience in R&D / new product development (not just sustaining engineering)
- MUST HAVE strong sheet metal design experience
- Background in industrial product design
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (modeling, assemblies, and drawings)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
- Experience with prototyping and hands-on testing
- Familiarity with additional fabrication processes (machining, welding, etc.)
- Experience working in a fast-paced or cross-functional environment
