Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join their team in Anoka, MN. This is a direct hire opportunity focused on R&D and new product development for industrial products. This position will play a key role in taking concepts from early-stage design through prototyping and into production.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced development environment and has a strong background in sheet metal design and SolidWorks.  Candidates MUST have sheet metal design experience!


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design efforts for new product development (R&D) projects
  • Design and develop components and assemblies using SolidWorks
  • Create detailed drawings, models, and documentation for production
  • Apply strong sheet metal design principles, including bend allowances, tolerances, and manufacturability
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams to bring products to market
  • Build and test prototypes; iterate designs based on performance and feedback
  • Ensure designs meet functional, cost, and manufacturability requirements
  • Support design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience (senior-level candidates only)
  • Proven experience in R&D / new product development (not just sustaining engineering)
  • MUST HAVE strong sheet metal design experience
  • Background in industrial product design
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (modeling, assemblies, and drawings)
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with prototyping and hands-on testing
  • Familiarity with additional fabrication processes (machining, welding, etc.)
  • Experience working in a fast-paced or cross-functional environment
