This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
In this role you will be a part of the team that perform tasks related to the design, manufacture, and operation of the New Glenn launch system's 7-Engine and 9-Engine booster programs.
You will work on welding/joining problems for various spaceflight systems that experience a wide range of environmental and loading conditions.
You will specify, develop, and qualify joining processes such as laser, electron beam, gas tungsten arc, etc. on development and flight hardware for New Glenn systems. You will work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to optimize materials and processes for new configurations while maintaining on-going support for current parts on the production.

Responsibilities:
Develop and qualify fusion welding processes for launch vehicle applications.
Support production welding including MRB, and similar non-conformance dispositions.
Work with multi-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce world class aerospace hardware
Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing and quality to define material requirements and successfully implement production solutions
Oversee and perform metallographic and mechanical testing of welds and weld samples, and evaluation of materials characterization data or NDT results; Evaluate weld defects and lead to establish improvement plans or repair procedures
Develop and define internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation and implementation
Ensure M&P design requirements are met through the review and refinement of part designs, drawings and manufacturing controls
Define and oversee vendor-provided process qualifications
Provide approval signatory for internal and external process control documents and work instructions
Identify and contribute to continuous process improvement opportunities
Provide design input for weld tooling
Qualifications:
B.S. degree or higher in materials, welding, or metallurgical engineering.
7+ years experience in materials engineering or a related field.
Experience with definition and qualification of fusion welding processes such as VPPA, GTAW, and EBW
Experience with welding aluminum, titanium, and/or nickel superalloys.
Experience supporting design and manufacturing teams in an aerospace environment, including preparing specifications, test reports, and design substantiation documentation
Capable of developing and executing plans for material characterization, such as mechanical and environmental testing.
Experience interacting with aerospace suppliers, including on-site engineering audits, technical interchanges, supplier qualifications and statistical process controls.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle small and large projects with a variety of customers.
Experience interpreting, meeting and verifying internal and external regulatory requirements, including AWS, and NASA standards such as MSFC-SPEC-3679.
Desired:
Ability to develop engineering requirements for undefined material forms and processes
Demonstrated domain expertise in aerospace structural metals.
Experience with statistical treatment of test data and the generation of design values.
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $140,959.00-$197,342.25
