Summary Statement
The Senior Maritime Electrical Manager provides leadership and technical oversight for the design, integration, and delivery of shipboard electrical systems supporting new vessel construction and refit projects. This role oversees electrical engineering activities, ensures regulatory compliance, and partners closely with production, project management, and cross-functional engineering teams.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth, proven leadership experience, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced shipyard environment.
Education/Experience
Electrical System Design & Oversight
Lead the development of shipboard electrical system designs, including schematics and layout drawings for new construction and retrofit projects.
Review and approve electrical drawings and related documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
Team Leadership & Coordination
Supervise, mentor, and support a team of electrical engineers and designers.
Assign responsibilities, establish priorities, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
Project Management & Collaboration
Coordinate with naval architects, mechanical engineers, production teams, and other stakeholders to integrate electrical systems with overall vessel design.
Participate in project planning, scheduling, and status reviews to support on-time project execution.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure all electrical systems and designs comply with ABS, USCG, and other applicable maritime standards and regulations.
Oversee quality control reviews and resolve technical issues that arise during construction and commissioning.
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
Identify and implement process improvements and engineering best practices.
Address design challenges and field discrepancies in a timely and effective manner.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Minimum 5–7 years of experience in shipyard or maritime electrical engineering.
At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or lead capacity.
Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical; familiarity with ShipConstructor or similar design software.
Strong knowledge of shipboard electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, automation, and communication systems.
Ability to interpret and apply ABS and U.S. Coast Guard rules and regulations.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience with PLC programming and power management systems.
Background in integrating advanced vessel technologies.
Familiarity with shipyard production workflows and safety procedures.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation.
