Senior Manager Risk and Insurance

- Program Management & Strategy: Lead the day-to-day management of Wayfair’s global insurance programs and broker relationships. Own the end-to-end insurance procurement and risk transfer processes—from data gathering and application preparation to underwriter presentations and program negotiation.
- Claims & Risk Mitigation: Provide strategic advice on risk/insurance-related matters, including contract standards, indemnification provisions, supplier diligence, supplier/carrier risk management and transfer, and policy coverage.
- Captive Strategy: Manage our captive insurance entity, overseeing its day-to-day operations while strategically leveraging the structure to optimize our risk retention, improve coverage flexibility, and advance long-term programmatic financial goals.
- Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to mature and streamline our internal processes. Scale the broader Risk & Insurance function and help us build next-gen capabilities leveraging AI and other technology.
- Cross-Functional Influence: Partner closely with Legal, Finance, Talent and Operations stakeholders to build consensus and align risk strategies with broader business objectives. Translate complex insurance data (loss-sensitive programs, forecasting, collateral) into actionable insights for non-technical leadership.
- Leadership & Relationships: Grow more junior team members, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team. Leverage external resources, build strong industry and partner relationships and maintain high service levels that enable Wayfair’s growth and meet our high expectations.
- Core Experience: 8+ years in risk management, with a track record of executing large-scale projects from end-to-end. You possess deep knowledge of insurance programs, loss forecasting, and collateral calculation. Experience with large international entity casually, property, financial and professional, and cargo related lines a must.
- Strategic Thinking: A demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and influence stakeholders at all levels. You bring a commercial mindset and can balance the day-to-day "hands-on" requirements of risk management with vision for longer term strategic needs.
- Process-Oriented Mindset: A builder’s mentality. You are comfortable identifying process gaps and implementing technology to solve them, ensuring our risk data and workflows are scalable and efficient.
- Communication & Negotiation: Exceptional relationship-building skills. You are as comfortable negotiating terms with underwriters as you are explaining risk exposure to internal business partners.
- Operational Agility: Highly organized, capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment, and tenacious in the pursuit of excellent outcomes.
