Job Summary
Manages team(s) responsible for developing and implementing process and reporting that guide operational decisions and support optimal P&L decisions for the Merchandising Organization. The Sr. Manager, Planning works closely with the Divisional Merchandising Managers to deliver on the business strategy by focusing on annual and weekly financial planning, creating a total business forecast, and evaluating potential pricing decisions and promotional plans. Accountable for delivering ongoing financial plans by providing data-driven recommendations and creation of the demand plan. Works highly collaboratively within a matrix organization to optimize sales and profit growth while aligning to the category portfolio strategy.
Job Responsibilities
+ Accountable for the management of the daily activities that develop and implement multiple components / processes for Merchandise Planning. Leads the development of strategic recommendations to support stakeholder expectations for assigned area.
+ Develops strategies for area of specified responsibility and works cross-functionally to create actionable goals to be implemented accordingly for expected/anticipated results. Performs as subject matter advisor to functional area and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems highly complex in nature. Advises and makes actionable recommendations to stakeholders on strategic initiatives related to area of expertise.
+ Helps to define and translate business goals into viable short and long-range plans with actionable goals.
+ Develops protocols to support improved or recommended processes. Oversees team(s) project assignments and deliverables; ensures successful completion of project goals and objectives.
+ Collaborates cross-functionally and shares information necessary to improve workflow and deliver end to end approach. Interacts with direct reports and peers in management / customers / vendors to share information and improve cross-departmental processes.
+ Makes recommendations for specified area of responsibility regarding the operating plans of the functional unit, then, based on prevailing conditions may realign the daily operations of assigned functional area.
+ Develops budget for functional area. Accountable for area budget and delivering against business goals/objectives.
+ Reviews reports and metrics and identifies opportunities to optimize pricing and promotional plans. Reviews marketplace data and provides recommendations. Delivers sound analysis to drive performance and ensures alignment across category team and cross functional partners through a standardized process. Provides post mortem analysis of merchandise categories to identify trends and make recommendations to maximize business results.
+ Manages managers, supervisors and individual contributors. Allocates available resources to meet operating objectives. Ensures the ongoing training and development of direct reports. Develops and mentors staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.

External Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of experience in one or more of the following: retail, merchandising, planning, demand planning, inventory management, allocation, analytics, finance or replenishment OR a high school diploma/GED and at least 7 years of experience in two or more of the following: retail, merchandising, planning, demand planning, inventory management, allocation, analytics, finance or replenishment.
+ Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, including the executive level.
+ Experience analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.
+ Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
+ Strong analytical skills, problem solving skills and recommends solutions, superior critical thinking skills, and strong communication and presentation skills.
+ Experience influencing stakeholders within an organization
+ Advanced level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: adding developer tab, creating a macro, formatting table style, inserting comments and/or creating a mail merge).
+ Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using AVERAGE function, merging and centering cells, printing centered page and/or creating a pivot table).
+ Advanced level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: changing picture styles, customizing animation and/or setting automatic slide timings).
+ At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
+ At least 2 years of experience of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
+ Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master's degree OR MBA
+ 7 years of experience in one or more of the following: retail, merchandising, planning, demand planning, inventory management, allocation, analytics, finance or replenishment.
+ Advanced analytics, query/modeling
+ JDA, SAP or other merchandise planning tools
+ SAP Systems
