Department Overview:
- The Business Finance teams provide financial planning and reporting services and is responsible for providing strategic direction and coordination in respect to strategic functional area planning processes, financial planning, forecasting, analytics, and reporting.
- The Value Delivery program, part of the Business Finance team, is a transformative effort to optimize the strategy to realize value to support the company's long-term growth while maintaining affordability for our customers. With the goal of improving our Cap/Expense ratio over a six-year period - representing in savings, the program will lead the enterprise plan to deliver operational efficiency and financial performance.
Job Summary:
- Our client is seeking a highly skilled and accomplished Expert Financial Analyst to define and execute on structured analysis.
- The ideal candidate would have worked at a California or other leading utility in Finance or cost/performance management in operations.
- Senior Financial Analyst will have a structured hypotheses-based problem-solving mindset with a detailed understanding of the underlying data and data structures of multiple systems to allow in-depth analysis of existing and potential data insights.
Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluate enterprise performance and provide data-driven insights that lead to actionable recommendations.
- Frame analytic approaches and lead quantitative analyses that will yield critical answers to key questions.
- Uses existing financial models and/or develops new models for analysis and reporting.
- Contributes to establishing standards and drives improvement within existing processes, and develops new processes as needed.
- Senior Financial Analyst provides recommendations to senior management (up to and including SVP/ EVP) across functions to drive and influence planning, operations efficiency, and decision making.
- May manage cross-functional projects or initiatives.
- May act as a team lead and provide direction to less experienced employees.
- Leads special projects and initiatives as assigned.
- Interacts and consults with multiple departments and business partners.
- Drives change in the organization and is a champion of company initiatives as appropriate.
- Enrich company data through external and public sources.
- Identify opportunities for targeted, cost-effective resource (savings) acquisition.
- Conduct trend and sensitivity analyses.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or job-related discipline, or equivalent experience
- Requires a minimum of six years of accounting, financial, or business-related experience, including advanced analytical experience
Highly Desired:
- Master's Degree in Business Administration or equivalent experience
- Job-related experience, 8 years
- Utility industry experience
- Experience in consulting
- CPA-Certified Public Accountant certification
- Well-versed with Python/SAS to build descriptive predictive models that enrich, expand, and allow a deeper understanding of data analyses and solutions
- Use of interactive data visualization tools, such as Tableau and Power BI, to present results in a compelling manner
- Data-oriented personality
- Ability to synthesize the requests from management at all levels
- Capability to be a creative, innovative problem solver - but using simple ideas
- Ability to work full-time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday
- Develop KPIs/KRIs wherever needed to provide an initial view of performance/risks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Only local candidates currently residing in the Bay Area/Near the Work Location.
- The role is hybrid working from your remote office and in-person at the Oakland General Office 1-3x weekly or based on business needs.
