Lumos & Associates, a leader in civil engineering throughout northern California, Nevada, and Idaho, is seeking an accomplished Water/Wastewater Senior Engineer to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to take on a key technical leadership role within our Water/Wastewater practice. The position will work out of our Roseville, California office.

The ideal candidate brings advanced expertise in water and wastewater infrastructure design, a strong sense of ownership, and a collaborative leadership style. This individual will serve in responsible charge of projects, provide high-level technical oversight, and mentor junior staff while helping grow our technical practice.

About the Role:

The Water/Wastewater Senior Engineer serves as a senior technical leader responsible for the design, coordination, and oversight of complex infrastructure projects across our service territory. Project types include:

  • Water distribution systems
  • Sanitary sewer collection systems
  • Booster pump and lift stations
  • Storage facilities
  • Master planning and hydraulic modeling
  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities

This role combines advanced technical execution, team leadership, client engagement, and business development support.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and skills:

  • Strong technical background in water and wastewater design and construction management experience, and have a demonstrated ability to serve in a responsible charge capacity for water and wastewater projects.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical information in public forums, as well as interpersonal communication with team members and colleagues.
  • Possess a high level of creativity, organizational skills, and attention to detail, as well as a demonstrated ability to manage and oversee several tasks/projects concurrently.
  • Strong business acumen necessary to maintain project budgets and develop new and repeat business with existing and new clients.
  • Possess vision to help grow and direct the water/wastewater technical focus group in close coordination with the Lumos Group Manager, consistent with our strategic plan and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, oversee, and direct the project design team during the execution of projects in responsible charge.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and delegating responsibility to staff.
  • Provide technical review (QA/QC) of projects.
  • Leads the development of engineering drawings using CAD/Civil 3D software. Designs in a manner according to established industry standards and state or federal construction policies. Conducts research as needed. This position will work in coordination with the Project Manager, but will spend a significant amount of time independently.
  • Prepares or guides the preparation of due diligence/site analysis reports, engineer's opinion of probable construction costs, utility infrastructure design and computations, technical reports, and general civil design for review by a Project Manager.
  • Serves as the engineer in responsible charge for production of final civil design drawings/may stamp project deliverables, including plans, specifications, reports, and calculations.
  • Leads field visits and construction site visits, and provides assistance related to the aspects of construction assistance activities (verify quantities, field reports, process pay applications, etc.).
  • Prepares models or guides computer modeling for analysis of water, sewer, and stormwater systems. Prepares or guides the preparation of reports based upon modeling in coordination with the team.

 Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering.
  • 6+ years of progressive water/wastewater design experience.
  • California P.E. license (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record with 3 or fewer demerit points.

The compensation range reflects the Company's reasonable expectation at the time of posting. We consider a number of factors when making individual compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, and other business needs.

California salary pay range
$120,000—$160,000 USD
