Senior Engineer

Position Description
Play a key role in supporting Austin-based growth initiatives. You’ll work on a wide range of pipeline and infrastructure projects that bring natural gas utility service to new subdivisions and commercial developments. We’re looking for experienced engineering professionals who can collaborate effectively with commercial developers and internal teams on planning, design, routing, and conflict analysis.
In this role, you will lead and perform natural gas system design for residential and commercial developments. You’ll translate utility construction best practices into AutoCAD-based designs, prepare project estimates, and help the company stay ahead of new development across Central and East Texas. A Professional Engineer license is strongly preferred, along with experience in subdivision design and permitting with TxDOT, counties, and municipalities in the Austin metro area.
What You Will Do
Engineering & Technical Leadership
Perform and direct advanced engineering activities.
Lead engineering design for:
Transmission and distribution pipeline systems and appurtenances
Measurement and regulation facilities
Compressor stations
Dehydration plants
Conduct gas flow analysis, determine compressor efficiencies, and calculate storage withdrawal requirements.
Project Coordination & Management
Coordinate projects across regions, departments (Accounting, Contract Administration, Operations, Customer Services), and contractors.
Manage:
Bid proposals and contracts
Line extensions
Construction and relocation projects
Oversee gas projects including residential, industrial, and large commercial developments, major system improvements, and highway/street relocations.
Pipeline Integrity & Compliance
Manage all aspects of the pipeline integrity process, including planning, testing, documentation, and compliance.
Work with the Divisional Engineering Pipeline Integrity Manager to request and manage changes to transmission pipelines (MOCs).
Technical Guidance & Support
Provide engineering support to management, employees, regulators, contractors, and customers on:
Meter and regulator settings
Equipment and system design
Pipeline sizing
Gas control
Facility design, construction, operations, and maintenance
Civil site and right-of-way utility planning
Policies, procedures, and process improvements
Research, Analysis & Documentation
Prepare, review, and approve:
Engineering studies
Regulatory codes, rules, and standards
Pipeline bid proposals and construction contracts
Gas purchase contracts
Cost estimates and material specifications
Purchase requisitions
Lost and unaccounted-for gas reports
Technology & Systems
Provide technical support and recommendations for the implementation and use of:
AutoCAD Civil 3D / Bluebeam
GIS
GPS
Maximo
CRM Dynamics
Synergi / GASCalc
Flow Cal, Test It, and other measurement software
What You Will Need
Education & Credentials
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (required).
Passing the Professional Engineer exam or holding a PE license (strongly preferred).
Valid driver’s license.
Technical Experience
Experience analyzing piping plans for compliance with standards and regulations.
Proficiency with mathematical concepts including algebra, calculus, and statistics.
Experience using GIS, AutoCAD, SynerGEE, Excel, Access, and related software.
Background in:
Transmission/distribution pipeline operations
Operating and safety procedures
Line extension and relocation policies
Material failure investigations
Pipeline stress/strain analysis
Construction and industry standards
