The Opportunity:

Roehl Transport is seeking a Senior Database Architect to help shape the future of our data platforms as part of a small, highly trusted data management team. You will partner closely with our Senior SQL Server Architect while driving forward the evolution of our cloud and emerging data platforms, bringing strong architectural leadership, curiosity, and judgment to how we manage and protect data across the enterprise.

This role spans a mature, mission‑critical on‑prem SQL Server environment, while helping define and build the next wave of Roehl’s data architecture, including modern cloud platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, and PostgreSQL. We have a strong, stable on-prem core, with meaningful, ongoing work where strong architectural thinking matters—particularly around security, governance, and how modern data platforms enable advanced analytics and AI‑driven use cases.”

What You’ll do:

You will lead the architectural direction and practical implementation of modern and evolving data platforms, working hands‑on where it matters and guiding decisions that will shape Roehl’s data ecosystem for years to come. You’ll collaborate closely with peers across BI, AI, applications, and infrastructure, and work in true partnership with our Senior SQL Server Architect—bringing perspective and architectural leadership across platforms.

This is a hands-on senior individual‑contributor role with real impact, designed for someone who wants to build, influence, and lead through expertise.

The Experience:

This is a senior-level, architect-scope opportunity. The ideal candidate will have:

• Deep SQL experience, including strong T‑SQL skills
• Cloud experience (Azure preferred)
• Exposure to cloud and open-source databases, especially PostgreSQL and Microsoft Azure SQL and Fabric
• Extensive experience with SQL Server, including advanced performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting in active/passive high-availability clustered environments
• Multiple years in a senior technical or architect role, designing DBMS solutions and implementing core architecture for SQL database platforms
• Demonstrated technical leadership—mentoring, setting standards, and driving best practices for database administration and engineering
• Experience with Microsoft security and identity solutions
• Understanding of secure data handling practices

Preferred and Plus Skills:

• Experience with Microsoft Replication and CDC strongly preferred
• Experience with Azure Monitor, Snowflake, Comvault, Redgate tools, Azure DevOps, GitHub and Visio preferred
• Deep understanding of relational and dimensional data models, metadata, and data governance practices
