Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Data Security Engineer to lead the design, deployment, and operational management of enterprise data security solutions, including the BigID data intelligence platform. This role will be responsible for enabling secure data discovery, classification, governance, and privacy compliance while supporting the organizations migration of critical applications and data into AWS.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on data platform engineering, cloud security architecture, and data governance expertise. You will work across engineering, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure that data security is built into the architecture of modern cloud platforms and enterprise data environments.
Key Responsibilities
Data Security Platform Engineering
- Deploy, configure, and manage the BigID data intelligence platform across development, QA, and production environments.
- Support enterprise data discovery, classification, sensitivity labeling, and remediation activities such as masking and redaction.
- Manage onboarding of new data sources and validate scan results to ensure accurate classification and governance.
Cloud Security & Architecture
- Design and implement secure data architectures within AWS environments.
- Develop security patterns and guardrails for data protection as applications and data migrate to the cloud.
- Conduct architecture reviews and security validations for cloud-based data services and pipelines.
Data Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with data privacy and regulatory requirements including GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA.
- Implement data governance policies related to classification, access control, encryption, and data lifecycle management.
- Partner with governance and risk teams to align technical controls with regulatory frameworks.
Engineering & Integration
- Develop automation scripts and integrations using Python and Shell scripting.
- Support API integrations and platform interoperability with enterprise tools such as data catalogs and governance platforms.
- Optimize data processing pipelines leveraging technologies such as Spark and Hadoop.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with data engineers, data scientists, product teams, and business stakeholders to support enterprise data initiatives.
- Lead threat modeling and security design discussions for data platforms and cloud workloads.
- Translate technical risks into clear guidance for both technical teams and business stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- 57+ years of experience in data engineering, cybersecurity, or cloud security engineering
- Hands-on experience with BigID or similar data discovery and governance platforms
- Strong knowledge of data governance, data privacy regulations, and security best practices
- Experience working with AWS cloud services and cloud-native security controls
- Experience with big data technologies such as Spark or Hadoop
- Proficiency in Python or Shell scripting
- Experience supporting data classification, discovery, and remediation programs
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Security certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, or AWS Certified Security Specialty
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation)
- Familiarity with governance frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or SOC 2
- Experience integrating BigID with tools such as Alation or enterprise data catalogs
- Exposure to DevSecOps or CI/CD security practices
