POSITION PURPOSE:
Ensures an efficient and proven (on-time) routing system for Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Transportation offices. Assists the Director in overseeing the planning, development, and coordination of stops, runs, and routes created using the Transportation Information Management System (TIMS) and Global Positioning System (GPS). Develops and produces management reports to prove job performance and accountability of each district office.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Extensiveknowledgeofinformationsystemsandvehiclerouting/schedulingsoftwaresystems;
- ConsiderableknowledgeofMicrosoftOffice,specificallyMicrosoftWord,Excel,andPowerPoint;GoogleApps;
- Knowledgeof Geographic Information Systems (GIS), GPS, and related vehicle tracking technology;
- Knowledgeofroutingstrategies,fleetutilization,andscheduling;
- Demonstrated aptitude workingwithpeers indevelopingprocesses and procedures toachieve organizationgoals and objectives;
- Ability to manage and prioritize work assignments of staff to ensure a timely and accurate work product;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
- Ability to positively communicate with internal and external customers and promote a culture of outstanding customer service that fosters customer satisfaction;
- Abilitytoconducttrainingonroutingsoftwaresystemandprocesses;
- Ability to organize and analyze data and statistics to identify problems and devise innovative solutions;
- Ability to display critical or pertinent management information in a report format;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, school administrators, support staff, central office staff, and parents.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’sdegreefromaccreditedcollegeinOperationsResearch,Mathematics,TransportationEngineering,
Information Systems, Business Administration, or closely related field; AND
- Fiveyearsofexperiencewithvehicleroutingandschedulingsoftwaresystem;AND
- Demonstratedleadershipexperience.
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Mustholdandmaintainavalidmotorvehicleoperator’slicenseaccordingtotheStateofNCrequirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Schooltransportationexperience;
- Large scale logistics planning experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsiblefortheoversightofsafe,efficient,andproven(on-time)routingofstudenttransportationvehicles.
- AssiststheDirectorinoverseeingtheplanning,development,andcoordinationofstops,runs,androutescreated using TIMS and GPS; reviews route audits and ensures that TIMS and GPS are up to date and accurate.
- Accountableforstayinguptodateonstateyellowbusguidelinesandensuringdepartmentalcompliance.
- ResponsibleforthemaintenanceandoversightofallsoftwaresystemsasassignedbytheDirectororSenior Director.
- Createsandimplementsnewprocessesandproceduresinordertomaximizethesuccessofroutesandstudent transportation.
- Provides technicalsupporttoall Transportationstaff.
- Developsandproducesmanagementreportstoprovejobperformanceandaccountabilityofeachdistrictoffice.
- Resolvesdifficultroutingissuesandconflicts.
- Performsroutedesign,mapping,andservicechangeanalysis.
- Performsotherrelatedduties,asassigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment, as ravel throughout Wake County is required to schools, central service offices, and other locations within Wake county.
