Bishop & Company is recruiting on behalf of a well?established, locally headquartered organization for a Senior Accounting Manager to provide senior?level leadership across core accounting operations and financial close functions.

The Senior Accounting Manager will lead general ledger operations, financial reporting, and compliance while serving as a trusted partner to leadership and cross?functional teams. In addition to managing a high?performing internal accounting team, this role provides oversight of an offshore expense function and drives continuous improvement across systems, processes, and controls.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned accounting leader with strong business acumen, a hands?on leadership style, and the ability to balance precision with efficiency in a complex, high?volume environment.

Grocery and/or Retail experience highly preferred

Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Accounting Operations
  • Provide end?to?end leadership of accounting operations, including general ledger, fixed assets, capital expenditures, inventory, leases, expenses, prepaids, and intercompany transactions
  • Own the quarterly close process, ensuring accurate, timely, and well?controlled financial results
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting and system integrity, ensuring alignment between subledgers and the general ledger
Financial Close, Reporting & Audit Readiness
  • Ensure consistent, timely, and GAAP?compliant financial reporting
  • Lead quarterly general ledger reconciliations, variance analysis, and resolution of complex accounting issues
  • Prepare and oversee audit schedules and supporting documentation; serve as a primary accounting liaison to external auditors and tax partners
  • Maintain annual budgets within the accounting system and support fiscal year?end close activities
Team Leadership & Talent Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Accounting team, including internal staff and an offshore expense team
  • Establish clear performance expectations, accountability standards, and operational metrics
  • Conduct regular coaching and semi?annual performance evaluations, building a strong succession pipeline and engaged team culture
Process Improvement, Controls & Governance
  • Evaluate, strengthen, and modernize accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Identify opportunities for automation, system optimization, and workflow efficiencies
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with U.S. GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal governance standards
Strategic Partnership & Communication
  • Partner closely with leadership and operational teams to support financial reporting, approvals, and decision?making
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non?finance stakeholders
  • Proactively communicate timelines, expectations, and process changes across the organization
Additional Leadership Contributions
  • Lead or support special projects and cross?functional initiatives aligned with organizational priorities

Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • CPA preferred but not required; public accounting experience strongly valued
Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior management or leadership role
  • Experience overseeing large?scale financial operations, including at least $10M in capital projects and $100M+ in annual revenue
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and complex accounting environments
  • Hands?on experience with Sage, Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains), and Microsoft Office
  • Grocery and/or Retail experience highly preferred

Compensation
Compensation and title are determined individually for each candidate based on the skills and experience they bring to the role. The expected starting salary range for this position is typically $100,000–$110,000 annually. This range is not a guarantee of a specific salary or title; final compensation and title depend on multiple factors, including education, experience, certifications, and other job?related requirements, and may fall outside the range listed above.
